ISO 9001

WOW!  It has been over a year since my last blog post.  The last year has been exciting times and the next six months will be even more so.  Let me explain.

Over the last year Toolless has been working hard to improve our quality and lead times.  We have added a second digital printer, a bending machine which bends both sides at once and are looking into a table to make our rolls fast and more accurate.  We also completed a 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) exercise on all stations of the manufacturing floor.  We have done all these things to produce quality custom plastic enclosures in a timely manner.

But we are not done.  Toolless Plastic has decided to pursue an ISO 9001 certification.  Although we have long adopted many quality improvement practices in the past; it is time for an outside agency to validate our processes and procedures.  We recently completed a Gap Analysis to provide us with a roadmap to success.  I believe we did fairly well, but off course there are areas we need to improve. Anyone who has gone through an ISO certification will tell you documentation is the biggest hurtle.  This is also true with Toolless.  By improving our process and better documenting procedures Toolless will more easily identify areas for improvement – making our custom plastic enclosures even better.

I’ll let you know how it goes.
